Despite some success on offense early in the 2022 NFL season, the Detroit Lions haven’t translated that positive outcome into wins. That’s why they’ve decided to shake things up at practice in hopes of gathering more victories.
Head coach Dan Campbell and his staff are figuring out how to turn their season around. Shifting practice to be more like training camp is one of their proposed solutions, and Lions star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown approves the change.
St. Brown is excited about the one-on-ones every Wednesday and Thursday because those drills help the team improve on their craft and compete. Dan Campbell also mentioned in interviews that reducing the intensity in practice was needed due to the injuries, but it’s now time to rekindle that fire before their position in the standings gets worse.
Meanwhile, St. Brown likes the changes in practice because games are won by winning one-on-one matchups. However, he pointed out that they battle against the scout team during typical practices. Therefore, the intensity isn’t there, unlike in training camp. While scout teams mimic the schemes of their upcoming opponent, the level of competition isn’t exactly the same.
The Lions hope the practice changes will work when they face the Miami Dolphins in Week 8. On the other hand, St. Brown is second on the team in receiving yards with 271. He is also tied for most receiving touchdowns with three.
